Catface Cafe is Biddeford's spot for breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch. With quality coffee, a seasonal menu, and a room built for people to actually stay a while, whether that's solo with a laptop, catching up with friends at the communal table, or grabbing something quick on your way back to work. And no, the name has nothing to do with cats — it's borrowed from the trade that built this town.

 

"Catface" is a real logging term: the healed scar left in wood from the work of harvesting it. Long before Biddeford was a textile town, it was a lumber town.

 

Sawmills have run on this stretch of the Saco River since 1653, and by 1800 there were seventeen of them cutting timber day and night. That's the mark we're named for: the kind that stays with something as it keeps growing.

That history is built into the room. The sawblade at the center of our mural, the large white pine communal table, and a wall of wooden white pine discs — all of it built by hand — keep that sawmill-era grit visible, even as the neighborhood around us changes.

Because Biddeford is changing. The same mill buildings that once ran on that timber are now apartments, studios, and small businesses, and this city's comeback is one we're proud to be part of. Mainers take that kind of hard-won history seriously, and we wanted a place that honors it rather than glosses over it. Come as you are. Leave full.
